Has anyone ever added an addition to a mobile home?
Q. My husband and I just purchased an older single-wide mobile home, and are thinking of adding an addition to the home, to make the bedrooms bigger. This would involve removing the walls on that side, and we realize that it will be a complex job. Any suggestions from people who have had experience, or just have knowledge about what would be required? Thank you!

A. I took and joined two single wides to make my own place once. Not as difficult as you would think. The biggest hurdle you will have is in the framing. I assume you have no intention of moving this, ever, right? joining the roof line, tearing out the wall, no big deal. None of the exterior walls are load bearing so there is no problem there. One thing you might want to consider is addiing to your heat and cooling system. All that means is tapping into the ductwork and adding another floor vent in your new far wall. Windows you can purchase easily and if you have any used trailer places around you, you can probably find new or used doors and windows to complete your project. Go for it, and add more space than you think you need while you're… [cont.]
